The Dutch forward continues his fine scoring run at major tournaments

The race for the Golden Boot at Euro 2024 is hotting up with the Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo joining a four-way tie for the lead with Jamal Musiala, Georges Mikautadze and Ivan Schranz.

Mikautadze’s penalty in Georgia’s shock win over Portugal put him ahead of a clutch of players on two goals apiece at the end of the group stage, before Musiala curled home in the last 16 against Denmark to move level with the Metz striker.

Schranz joined Musiala and Mikautadze on three goals after giving Slovakia a surprise lead against England in Gelsenkirchen. Gakpo then added his third of the tournament in the first half against Romania on Tuesday.

The number of own goals at this European Championship has now risen to eight, meanwhile.
