Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has warned the club’s trophy challengers that both he and his teammates are ready to work even harder to get back to their very best.
The Norway international is expected to return to action for Manchester City on Tuesday night after being granted a rare evening off on Saturday as his teammates cruised to victory in the FA Cup third round against Salford City.
Haaland’s stand-in on the evening, 20-year-old Academy striker Divin Mubama, got himself on the scoresheet, while there was also a hat-trick from James McAtee, and a brace from Jeremy Doku alongside goals from Jack Grealish and Nico O’Reilly.
The 8-0 win over the League Two outfit made it three wins in a row across competitions for Manchester City for the first time since October, and there is now a belief that such a run could spark a second-half resurgence this season.
Speaking during a recent interview, while Erling Haaland was keen to admit that he and the Manchester City squad have not been good enough to win plenty of matches in a row lately, they are more than determined to work even harder to recover their campaign.
“We’ve been struggling a bit, it hasn’t been good enough, simple as that,” Haaland told TNT Sports Mexico. “We haven’t been performing well enough, we haven’t won enough games, I haven’t been performing to my best, that’s the truth.”
The Manchester City striker continued, “We have to work even harder because there’s many games, many months left, so we can turn things around and already did a little. It’s going to get better and better, I’m ready to do whatever it takes, it’s going to change!”
Manchester City will hope to further extend their winning run of form when they take on the challenging task of Brentford away from home in the Premier League on Tuesday night, with Pep Guardiola hugely complimentary of Thomas Frank’s squad.
The Bees tested City’s excellence to the maximum in the reverse fixture having taken the lead through Yoane Wissa just 22 seconds into the Etihad Stadium clash, only for the hosts to come from behind and claim all three points in a 2-1 win.
Brentford marks the start of three consecutive away trips for Manchester City this month, with Ipswich Town hosting the champions at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon, before a visit to Paris Saint-Germain follows in the UEFA Champions League next week.
