Enzo Maresca believes Chelsea don’t need to sign a “killer” striker as he backed Nicolas Jackson to start finding the back of the net again.
The Blues made a brilliant start to the season and at one stage were only two points behind leaders Liverpool, and there was even talk of being in the title race.
However, Chelsea have hit a blip and are now five games without a win in the Premier League and have slipped to fifth place, although a win over Wolves on Monday night would see them move back above Newcastle into fourth.
The last five games have followed a familiar pattern with Chelsea creating so many chances but unable to put any of them away, and then being punished for mistakes.
Maresca expressed his frustration after the Bournemouth draw at the amount of chances missed, with Jackson coming in for criticism.
The 23-year-old has made a good start to the season and has nine league goals, but he’s failed to find the back of the net in the last five, squandering numerous chances.

The Blues have been linked with Liam Delap and Mathys Tel, whilst Maresca jokingly described January as a “disaster” in his pre-match press conference.
It seems clear to everyone the Blues need a striker as an alternative and to provide competition to Jackson, but Maresca seemingly doesn’t think so.
“No, because I think by being a little bit more lucky, we can convert and can score more goals,” he said as quoted by the Evening Standard when asked if Chelsea were looking to make a statement signing up front.

“It’s not about [signing] a ‘killer’. In this moment, the one that’s probably missing the goal is Nico. But the way he is working is fantastic, and we don’t have any doubt that Nico is soon going to start scoring goals.”
Chelsea will hope Jackson finds the back of the net against Wolves, which has now become a must win game, but failure to add a striker this month is taking a big gamble and one which could cost the Blues Champions League football.
