Enzo Maresca has revealed it was a “fantastic” feeling for him to see Chelsea’s players continue to work in he same way despite a run of difficult results.
Maresca oversaw a successful campaign, his first in charge at Stamford Bridge as he guided Chelsea back to the Champions League and won the Conference League.
The Italian is currently in America preparing for the Club World Cup with Chelsea’s first game against Los Angeles FC on Monday night, and he’s expected to go on a deep run in the competition.
The Blues made a blistering start to the season and even found themselves in the title race around Christmas time and Maresca named five players he feels have really improved under him.
However, post Christmas things took a turn and the Blues went through a period where they really struggled for results and dropped for second to fifth.
Maresca took a lot of criticism especially for his style of play, but the Blues rallied and finished the season strongly with their young squad showing signs of maturing.

The Italian has been speaking about last season ahead of the Club World Cup and revealed what moment was a “fantastic” feeling for him.
“What was a fantastic feeling for me was in the moment of the season we struggled, I saw the players continuing to work in the same way; they were continuing to work in the way we had done from the moment we started,” he told Chelsea’s website.
“It is very easy to change when you don’t get results, very easy to drop or change. But the players could smell the right things, and they could see the direction was the right one.”
The Blues will need to add to their squad now they are playing Champions League football next season, and have already completed the signing of Liam Delap.
