Lauren James is a major doubt for England's Women's Euro 2025 final against Spain or Germany after hobbling off at half-time against Italy in the semi-final.

The Lionesses struggled in the first half against the Azzurre, trailing thanks to Barbara Bonansea's strike, but their task was made even more difficult after James was forced off.

The Chelsea winger endured a testing first half, squandering an excellent look at goal with a side-foot finish.

Beth Mead was sent on in her place and contributed to the winning goal after Michelle Agyemang sent the tie into extra-time with a 96th-minute equaliser.

Mead then earned a penalty in the 119th minute with penalties approaching, with Chloe Kelly converting the rebound after seeing her spot kick saved.

James was seen with ice around her ankle as she limped towards the bench during the first interval at the Stade de Geneve.

Following the thrilling comeback, Sarina Wiegman admitted uncertainty surrounds James' condition and whether she will recover in time for Sunday's final at St. Jakob-Park, Basel.

"She hurt her ankle," said the England boss.

“I haven’t seen her yet.

"We’ll have to see over the next couple of days. We had to take her off."
