A stunning display at the back was key to Lionesses’ repeat victory
Spain dominated much of the game and took the lead midway through the first half after Mariona Caldentey found the net.
England, however, dug in and equalised after the break when Alessia Russo headed home Chloe Kelly’s cross.
The final went all the way to penalties and the Lionesses were victorious after Hannah Hampton saved two spot-kicks.

Hannah Hampton 9 | Star player
The goalkeeper has had a brilliant tournament after being made England’s No1 on the eve of it. The hero of the shootout, saving two penalties. Remarkable.
Lucy Bronze 7
Will have been disappointed that Caldentey nipped in front of her to score the opening goal. Recovered well after that and made a few vital clearances. Tireless.
Leah Williamson 9
A captain’s performance from the centre-back. Just a rock in the heart of defence and barely put a foot wrong. Passing was on point, too.
Jess Carter 9
Brought back into the team after being on the bench for the semi-final and justified her selection. Stepped up when needed and was a colossus.
Alex Greenwood 7
Struggled in the first half, but improved after the break. Tried to get forward on the overlap, but final ball was lacking.
Georgia Stanway 6
Like the whole England midfield, she had a difficult first half. Continued to dig in, though, and broke up play better after the break.
Keira Walsh 6
Struggled with Spain’s midfield, who dominated possession. Improved as the game went on, however, and was involved in Russo’s goal.
Lauren Hemp 7
Went close to scoring midway through the first half when Spain were sloppy playing out from the back. Kept going all game at her full-back.
Ella Toone 6
Got through a lot of running as she tried to help shut down Spain’s midfield. Unable to make an impact on the ball.
Lauren James 5
Almost scored early on when a rebound so nearly fell to her at the back post, but never really looked fit all game and had to come off before half-time.
Alessia Russo 8
A top performance from the striker, who worked her socks off without the ball to press Spain’s defence. Took her goal really well with a lovely guided header.
Substitutions
Chloe Kelly (James 40’) 8
On early than usual, but had the same impact. Created Russo’s goal with a perfect cross and, of course, scored the winning penalty.
Michelle Agyemang (Russo 71’) 6
Made her presence known by pressing Spain’s centre-backs. No heroics this time, but a solid showing.
Beth Mead (Toone 87’) 6
On to play as a No10, instead of out wide. Had the odd bright moment, but didn't have the impact she can.
Niamh Charles (Bronze 105’) N/A
Grace Clinton (Stanway 115’) N/A
