Having scored twice at the end of the match to beat Racing and deliver a precious victory to the Rouge et Blanc (1-3), the attacking midfielder from the Academy was elected MVP by the supporters on the AS Monaco App.
He completely changed the course of the match in ten minutes flat. Lacking success in his choices until the start of the last quarter of an hour and with AS Monaco were trailing 1-0 in Strasbourg, Eliesse Ben Seghir took things in hand to offer a comeback win for the Rouge et Blanc (1-3).
First forcing Diego Moreira to commit a handball on his line to prevent his shot from ending up in the back of the net, the Moroccan international (6 caps, 3 goals) converted the penalty with composure by ideally placing the ball out of reach of the opposing goalkeeper (79′). It was his third goal this season before the fourth a few moments later.
On a counterattack led by Vanderson then finished by Maghnes Akliouche, the attacking midfielder took advantage of George Ilenikhena’s fine movement to find himself in a good shooting position in the box. Without hesitating, he fired in his shot across goal, slipping the ball past Petrovic into the side netting (89′). With this double, the #MadeInLaDiagonale player thus offered himself his ninth and tenth career goals with AS Monaco.
At 19 years and 267 days, Eliesse is therefore the third youngest player of the Club to reach this mark in the 21st century, behind Kylian Mbappé ((8 years and 75 days) and Anthony Martial (19 years and 142 days). But more than this statistic, he especially allowed the Rouge et Blanc to take the lead in this match. An advantage that will be consolidated a few seconds later by our number 21, who scored after a high recovery.
It’s this no surprise the Olympic bronze medallist was widely voted MVP of this victory at La Meinau for the fifth time this season with 87% of the votes on the AS Monaco App. He finished ahead of Maghnes Akliouche, who provided the assist on the second goal (6%), and George Ilenikhena (2.5%), who scored the third goal. Bravo Eliesse! 👏
