Elena Sadiku: We are focusing on ourselves heading into Glasgow City match | OneFootball

It is a quick return to league duties on Wednesday evening for Celtic FC Women, who are gearing up for another huge week of SWPL action.

The Ghirls are back at the Excelsior Stadium, with a vital three points up for grabs as they take on Glasgow City (KO: 6:10pm).

As we enter the final five games of the SWPL campaign, there is still so much at stake, with the title race coming down to the write once more.

Although there are five huge games quickly on the horizon, for Elena Sadiku and her squad, they are strictly focused on one game at a time, starting this midweek.

Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of their match-up against Glasgow City, the Celtic Head Coach insisted that her side are desperate to bounce back from their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat at the weekend.

She said: “We know that Saturday wasn’t our best performance, and it’s something that we don’t want to be perceived as the team who put in that performance at the weekend.

“So we just need to bounce back as quick as possible, and that comes with tomorrow’s game against Glasgow City.

“We know that the game tomorrow will be an important game for us. We just need to focus on that game. What happens after it is not important right now.

“That’s the best part of it. We have five games left and we have important games ahead. So it’s just important that we have the focus on the games, and not the situation we are in.

“It’s the first time we as Celtic have been number one this late in the season, so it’s all about for us just trying to enjoy and trying to still perform the way we can and eventually it’s going to be three points.”

Wednesday evening’s match at the Excelsior Stadium will be the fifth meeting between the two sides of the campaign.

With the Hoops coming out victorious in three of the four outings so far, the Ghirls head into the match full of confidence, especially given their performance last time out against City.

That being said, each match against Glasgow City has offered up a difficult challenge, and that is something Sadiku and her players are well aware of.

“It’s will be a tough game, and they are a strong team,” she said. “We just need to make sure that we are ready because it’s going to be a tough game.

"That is something that we need to be prepared for. We know that it’s a huge game for them too because they need to make sure that they get three points, otherwise it is going to be a big gap.

“We also need to be confident because we have been playing so well the last few games, expect for Saturday, so that shouldn’t affect us.

“So we just need to bounce back and that is the challenge for the players tomorrow.”
