It was a return to winning ways for Elena Sadiku’s Celtic squad on Sunday afternoon as the Ghirls marked their return to league duties with three points.

After another busy week, which included a trip to Madrid in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the Celts were back at home in SWPL action.

Taking on the Edinburgh side, the Hoops sealed victory thanks to a first-half strike from Morgan Cross in the 1-0 win.

Reflecting on the match as a whole, Sadiku was ultimately happy to come away with the win.

However, the Celtic boss and her players know that the performance could have been better as they got back on track in the league following the previous week’s defeat against Hearts.

She said: “Obviously we are happy with the win, it gets us back on the winning track. But I think that none of us are really happy with the performance.

“After scoring early on, our reaction maybe could have been to push on more. With an early goal, we should be buzzing and excited to score another.

“But I just feel like it was not that reaction that we saw. Obviously, we tried to create more chances throughout the game.

“I think we were just not us today, we made a few too many mistakes with the ball that we don’t usually do.

‘We just didn’t really look like us and that is frustrating when it comes to all of us after the game.’

“We have talked about that, and we are frustrated that we didn’t do better. But we’ll take the win and move forward.”

The last few weeks have been a hectic period of time for the Ghirls, with matches in domestic and European action.

Quickly getting back to action after another UWCL outing on Thursday, it was a quick turnaround for the Celts.

But, that isn’t an excuse anyone in the Celtic squad is looking to use as we now head into the first international break of the campaign.

“I think the busy schedule is something that everybody is trying to adapt to,” she explained. “But I don’t think it should be a reason why don’t show up today.

“Because if we can play like we played against Real Madrid in midweek, it maybe shows that something is not quite switched on.

‘That needs to be better, and I know that the girls are going to reflect and make sure it doesn’t happen again.’

“Obviously, we are all about winning games and we are happy with the win. But we know that we can do so much better."
