Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller faced a tight media turnaround following his side’s Europa League elimination on Thursday evening. Already on Friday afternoon, it was time for Toppmöller to hold a press conference at Deutsche Bank Park as his side prepare to travel to Augsburg for tomorrow’s Bundesliga game.
The losses pile up for Eintracht following their European elimination. On Friday, it was confirmed that young keeper Kaua Santos would probably be sidelined for the duration of the calendar year. SGE still stand a decent chance of qualifying for next year’s Champions League via the table, but do face an Augsburg side in very good form.
Thursday’s loss proved doubly bitter for new Eintracht signing Rasmus Kristensen. The Dane missed several good opportunities to equalise against Tottenham. Frankfurt’s European dream might still be alive had the former Leeds United man converted late. Toppmöller confirmed on Friday that neither Kristensen or much of the team had gotten much rest afterwards.
“Rasmus didn’t sleep at all,” Toppmöller noted. “None of us slept well. It’s naturally disappointing as we all had the feeling that [advancement] was achievable. But we have to turn off the disappointment from yesterday that we still carry today at the latest by tomorrow.
“But it’s often the case that the bitterest moment is the beginning of a big success,” Toppmöller continued. “Eintracht lost a Pokal Final before winning one and got eliminated in the Europa League and then won it three years later. We’ll head forward with a fully positive attitude.“
