Frankfurt are yet to lose a Bundesliga game in 2025, having taken 10 points from four matches since the winter break. Die Adler recorded three consecutive league victories against St. Pauli, Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, before they had to settle for a point in last Sunday’s away clash with Hoffenheim. Dino Toppmöller’s side looked set to claim a 2-1 victory following a Hugo Ekitike brace, only to be denied all three points by Adam Hložek’s stoppage-time equaliser.
Die Adler went on to experience a disappointing trip to the Italian capital in midweek, falling to a 2-0 defeat to Roma in their final match of the Europa League league phase. However, Frankfurt still finished in the top-eight, securing them an automatic spot in the last 16. After wrapping up the league phase, Frankfurt will now turn their focus back to Bundesliga action, with the third-placed side looking to go five league games without defeat.
The hosts will fancy their chances of taking at least a point, having lost just one of their nine home league games this season (W6, D2). They do have the chance to complete a Bundesliga double over Wolfsburg after recording a 2-1 win in September’s reverse fixture.
Toppmöller has confirmed that Nathaniel Brown and Oscar Højlund will be available for Sunday’s contest. However, January addition Elye Wahi will not be ready to make his debut against Wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg have experienced a couple of underwhelming results since beginning the calendar year with back-to-back victories. Die Wölfe fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat against Bayern Munich, before they had to settle for a draw in their recent home meeting with Holstein Kiel. Wolfsburg came from behind to establish a 2-1 lead, courtesy of goals from Patrick Wimmer and Jonas Wind. However, Steven Skrzybski struck in the 80th minute to restore parity and deny Wolfsburg a narrow victory.
With three points separating them from the top six, Wolfsburg will look to boost their European hopes by claiming a victory in Sunday’s difficult away fixture. They start the weekend with the fifth best away record in the top flight, having taken 16 points from nine Bundesliga road trips. They have also avoided defeat in each of their last three trips to Deutsche Bank Park. Die Wölfe recorded two away victories in 2022, before they played out a 2-2 draw in their most recent away draw with Frankfurt in February 2024.
The visitors are unable to call upon the injured quartet of Lovro Majer, Rogério, Bartosz Białek and Kevin Paredes. Meanwhile, Patrick Wimmer will serve a one-match suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.
