Atalanta midfielder Ederson has once again resurfaced on Manchester United’s radar but they have quite the fight on their hands to land the Brazilian.
The 26-year-old has been a long-term target for the Red Devils, who are in need of midfield reinforcements following the exit of Christian Eriksen.
Manuel Ugarte failed to impress in his debut campaign, while Casemiro is not getting any younger. There remains uncertainty surrounding Kobbie Mainoo’s future with a new deal yet to be agreed.
What Ruben Amorim ideally needs is a player capable of providing both silk and steel in equal measure, and the Brazil international certainly fits the bill.
He ranked in the 96th percentile among Serie A midfielders for accurate passes, and long balls, while also figuring in the top 94 percentile for chances created.
Defensively, he was quite the workhorse, ranking in the 98th percentile for duels won and ball recoveries (all stats via Fotmob).
His form has also caught the attention of Inter Milan and Juventus, with the Bergamo-based outfit demanding €60 million to let him leave this summer.
“Atalanta midfielder Éderson is attracting the attention of Manchester United, Inter Milan and Juventus in the transfer market, GOAL has learned.
“The three clubs have made inquiries about the midfielder’s situation in the current transfer window and have already opened talks with the 26-year-old’s staff.
“Atalanta is asking for €60 million for the immediate release of the player. He is awaiting a formal proposal to advance negotiations with interested parties.:
As per previous reports relayed by The Peoples Person, INEOS do not have that kind of money for a midfielder, focusing on strengthening up front for now.
A loan or low-cost signing is expected in the middle of the park, and despite Ederson’s qualities, it is unlikely INEOS will spend as much on him this summer.
If either of the Serie A clubs do not win the race, and Ederson stays put at Atalanta, United could try again next summer as he will only have one year left on his deal then. The only chance for the deal to materialise in this window would be if Atalanta reduce their asking price drastically.
