Manchester City could yet see a significant change in the goalkeeping department this summer as Ederson attracts transfer interest from Turkey, according to reports.
Ederson has completed eight full seasons at the Etihad Stadium following his 2017 arrival from Benfica, cementing his place as one of the most influential goalkeepers of the Pep Guardiola era.
However, the Brazilian’s long-term future has appeared uncertain across the past two summer windows amid strong interest from Saudi Arabia, particularly during the early stages of the 2024 market.
Now approaching the final year of his Manchester City contract — which expires in the summer of 2026 — the 31-year-old may be at a career crossroads with his deal running down and interest building from across Europe and beyond.
As for Manchester City officials, they may need to make a definitive decision this summer on whether to extend Ederson’s stay or sanction a departure while they can still command a significant fee.
City are believed to have already begun considering potential successors in the event of an exit, with FC Porto’s Diogo Costa understood to be one of the leading candidates on the recruitment shortlist.
At present, and according to the information of Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Galatasaray are the latest club to have officially enquired about the conditions of potentially signing Ederson from Manchester City this summer.
The Brazilian international goalkeeper is said to be ‘open’ to the idea of playing for the Turkish giants if his salary expectations are met in the club’s proposal.
While the prospect of Ederson joining Galatasaray may not have been anticipated earlier in the window, the Turkish club’s willingness to meet financial expectations could play a key role in accelerating talks.
Whether the Brazilian views the Turkish Super Lig as a fitting next chapter in his own personal career remains to be seen, particularly with options in Saudi Arabia still looming in the background.
For City, a departure for Ederson would mark a major shift in the squad’s leadership and experience. The goalkeeper has been a core part of six Premier League-winning campaigns, and his distribution qualities have become foundational to the club’s tactical identity.
Should he move on, attention will quickly turn to how Manchester City plan to reinvest and restructure, with the next few weeks perhaps proving crucial in determining the future of the club’s number one position.
