Dunkerque head coach Luis Castro is close to filling Nantes’ managerial vacancy, according to Ouest-France. Les Canaris are looking for a replacement for Antoine Kombouaré, who has been dismissed after the end of the Ligue 1 season. Nantes have identified the Portuguese head coach as the ideal fit to lead the 8-time French champions. Talks have reportedly progressed very well between both parties as an agreement in principle has been reached.

Castro reportedly met Nantes’ executives on Tuesday morning and made quite an impression. The 45-year-old led Dunkerque to the Coupe de France semi-finals and Ligue 2’s fourth place. Castro has prioritized a move to Nantes, an outcome that became more apparent as Lens, who were also interested in Castro, look set to appoint Pierre Sage as head coach. Given that Castro remains tied with Dunkerque over a contract set to expire in 2027, Nantes now need to find an agreement with the Seasiders over a compensation fee.
