Doubts cast on reported €15m deal for Barcelona defender, Porto yet to make contact | OneFootball

In recent days, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding Mikayil Faye, whose time at Barcelona appears to coming to an end. Multiple sources have stated that the Senegalese youngster is close to signing for Porto in a deal worth €15m plus add-ons. However, doubts have been cast onto this.

As reported by MD, Barcelona have yet to speak directly to Porto in regards to a deal for Faye. Club officials consider it completely natural that the player’s agent is in Portugal, but contact between the two clubs has yet to take place.

Contrary to recent reports, Barcelona do not have any urgency to sell Faye before the end of the 2023-24 financial year. Their plan is simple: keep him for pre-season, thus allowing Hansi Flick to run the rule over him. If he impresses, he could stay as part of the first team, and a sale would probably be ruled out (unless an offer too good to refuse was received).

Faye’s situation is a very interesting one. It does make sense for Barcelona to consider a sale if he is not wanted, but ultimately, that cannot be determined until pre-season, when Flick will give his verdict. Thus, it would be a surprise if there was any concrete movement in the coming days/next couple of weeks.
