The young goalkeeper has impressed while on loan at the Sky Bet League Two side, helping Rovers to promotion and the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

His successful campaign has caught the eye, and the bosses at his Premier League parent club have signalled that they want to ship their prospect to the Championship during the summer, according to Alan Nixon.

Promotion-winning Doncaster Rovers loan spell

Grant McCann-managed Doncaster have sealed their return to the third tier after a failed play-off attempt last season and a bottom-half finish the prior term.

A good goalkeeper is key to any successful team, and Sharman-Lowe has certainly been worth his weight in gold for Rovers.

The 22-year-old has not missed a minute of Doncaster’s League Two season ahead of the final day trip to play-off chasing Notts County. Along the way, he has kept 13 clean sheets, adding to the two he has managed across the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

The former saw penalty shootout success for Sharman-Lowe, as he pulled off a vital save en route to an upset win for Doncaster at Championship side Hull City.

His spot-kick-saving exploits do not stop there, as he pushed away an effort from 12 yards in the game that clinched Doncaster’s promotion back into League One.

The Chelsea academy graduate saved Tyreik Wright’s penalty for Bradford City with only a handful of minutes left in the game, as Rovers then went up the other end and sealed the three points they needed to secure their spot in the automatic promotion spots through veteran striker Billy Sharp.

Chelsea youngster ready for the Championship

After a remarkable first loan spell in the EFL, the youngster surely looks ready to step up into the Championship. That would surpass his current South Yorkshire employers, who will move into League One ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

It is easy to forget that his season with Doncaster was Sharman-Lowe’s first outside of academy football or non-league, where he featured for Bromley. That is a major test for any footballer, but perhaps for goalkeepers more so.

The truth remains that it is a lonely place to play, and any mistake could see a place in the squad relinquished to a rival shot-stopper.

Sharman-Lowe has never given manager McCann an opportunity to drop him, building his way up from an understandably shaky start to the campaign to being a truly safe pair of hands.

He can pull off saves that seem unlikely, and has no doubt prevented Doncaster from conceding many a goal along the way.

His distribution is worthy of mention too. Sharman-Lowe can put a long ball forward on a sixpence, springing a number of ‘route one’ style goals for Rovers this term.

For the season, according to FotMob, his pass accuracy is 68.3%, while he has launched 278 accurate long balls at an accuracy of 38.5%.
