Carlo Ancelotti was widely praised by the Italian newspapers following Real Madrid’s Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund, being called a ‘living legend’.
Los Blancos outclassed their German opponents in a tense final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening, edging out a 2-0 win after second half goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior, earning the club their 15th title in Europe’s premier club competition.
Ancelotti has further proven himself to be one of the strongest coaches in the history of football, winning his fifth Champions League title in the dugout, two more than his closest rivals Bob Paisley, Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola.
La Gazzetta dello Sport were impressed with Ancelotti’s work in the dugout for Real Madrid, pointing to his experience and trophy haul, writing: “Don Carlo strikes again: 5th Champions League as coach in his 6th final and his 204th match in the competition. A master, even in managing men.”
Corriere dello Sport showered the Italian coach in gold after his glorious evening at Wembley Stadium, commenting: “He wins the fifth and leaves everyone behind. He suffered and then won in his own way. Don Carlo strikes again, living legend of Real Madrid and world football.”
Tuttosport underlined Real Madrid’s difficulties against Borussia Dortmund and how Ancelotti guided them to success, saying: “The defence danced at a dizzying rate throughout the first half, but they saw Dortmund’s weak point at the near post of the corners and punished them there, giving themselves their sixth Champions League title, his fifth as a coach.”
