MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with Cacique Diriangén FC hosting CS Herediano in Group B on Wednesday at Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Diriamba, Nicaragua.

Diriangén FC was unable to take the full three points at home in a 1-1 draw with CSD Municipal last Thursday. Junior Arteaga placed the Nicaraguan club in the lead with an acrobatic bicycle kick goal in the first half. The Guatemalan side would equalize in the second to split the points.

CS Herediano earned a 4-2 win against Real España in its opening encounter. Marcel Hernández, Elías Aguilar, and Jurguens Montenegro all struck to lead the Costa Rican side to victory and take the pole position.

CS Herediano extended its unbeaten run in the Central American Cup to 17 matches (W-8 D-9) and, with the win, ended a streak of five consecutive draws—the longest such streak by any club in the tournament’s history.Marcel Hernández scored his fifth goal in the tournament, his second with CS Herediano, and became the first player from the Florenses to both score and provide an assist in the same Central American Cup match.

All-Time series

Cacique Diriangén and CS Herediano will face each other for the third time in the history of the Central American Cup, with the advantage in the series favoring CS Herediano with 1 win and 1 draw.

The first meeting took place in the inaugural edition (2023) on August 3, 2023, on Matchday 1 of Group C at Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Diriamba (NCA), ending in a 1-1 draw. The goal for the “Cacique” came from a header by Luis Copete, while Fernán Faerron scored for the “Florenses.”

The second time was on Matchday 2 of Group A in the 2024 edition, also at Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Diriamba (NCA), on August 7, 2024, with Herediano winning 0-1 thanks to a goal from José Muñoz.

In official Concacaf competitions, these teams have met four times: twice in the Central American Cup and twice in the Concacaf Champions Cup in Group 3 of the North & Central America Preliminary Round in 1994, in a two-legged series. On that occasion, the Costa Rican club won both matches: 0-5 in the first leg (December 8, 1993) at Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Diriamba (NCA), with goals from Roger Gómez (3), Germán Chavarría, and Rodinei Martins, and 4-2 in the second leg (December 15, 1993) at Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero in Heredia (CRC). CS Herediano's goals were scored by Alberto Castillo (2), Roger Gómez, and Nahamán González, while Jairo Aguirre (2) scored for “Cacique” Diriangén.

In their head-to-head series, they have met 4 times, with 3 wins for CS Herediano and 1 draw.
