Diogo Dalot has signed a new long-term contract at Manchester United, extending his time at the club until 30 June 2028, with an option for a further year also available.
The Portuguese international’s previous contract was set to expire in June 2024, leaving him able to depart United on a free transfer next summer should the new terms not have been agreed.
However, an extension has now been confirmed following the 24-year-old’s impressive performances under United boss Erik ten Hag this season, where he has cemented his position as the club’s starting right-back, making 38 starts in all competitions and helping the Red Devils reclaim a spot in the Champions League next season.
In an interview with the club following the announcement of his extension, Dalot stated: “Playing for Manchester United is one of the highest honours that you can have in football. I can assure you that I will dedicate myself relentlessly to helping this group achieve our aims and make the fans proud of this team.”
According to Transfermarkt, the defender was brought over to Old Trafford from his boyhood side Porto in 2018, for a reported €22m fee and has since made 107 appearances, winning his first trophy this February after United’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the EFL cup final.
This Saturday, June 3rd, Dalot will have the opportunity to make his fans proud and win his second trophy of the season in the process, when United take on bitter rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
The upcoming clash will be the first ever Manchester derby to take place in an FA Cup final, making for a historic occasion as City attempt to take one step closer to becoming the first English club since Sir Alex Ferguson’s 1999 heroes to win a monumental treble.
