Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has on Monday responded to the recent jibes aimed at he and his team on the part of Real Madrid pair Carlo Ancelotti and Dani Ceballos.
Something of a war of words has of course been brewing on the two halves of the Madrid divide over the course of recent days.
This comes after the aforementioned Diego Simeone responded to questions on the controversial officiating in Real’s Copa del Rey victory over Celta Vigo by suggesting that Los Blancos have been the beneficiaries of such decisions ‘for 100 years’.
Carlo Ancelotti did not take kindly to such allegations, suggesting that his Atlético counterpart was simply attempting to grab the headlines.
Blancos star Dani Ceballos then aimed an altogether more blatant jibe at Simeone, stating on the back of Real Madrid’s La Liga victory over Las Palmas on Sunday that:
“I think Simeone still hasn’t gotten over the two Champions League finals he lost against Real Madrid.”
During his latest press conference on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when such comments were put to Diego Simeone himself.
And the Argentine tactician’s response, in full, is showcased below:
“I never comment on what my colleagues think; I simply refer to memory. And when you look back at the game against Bayern, Carlo’s statements were a consequence of what happened on the pitch, not for show. Ceballos is the same – when he was at Betis, he thought differently. When they were on another team, they thought differently.”
