Lyon have successfully appealed their Ligue 2 relegation on Wednesday in front of the DNCG appeal committee. Newly-named club president Michele Kang and Lyon Michael Gerlinger managed to reverse the decision to relegate Les Gones to France’s second-tier.

Speaking in a press conference last night at Groupama Stadium, Kang lifted the lid on how Lyon swayed the DNCG – Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion, French football’s regulators – in their favour. “It concerned the available cash flow, new liquidity contributions, and guarantees in case our cash flow became negative. On these three components, we have met their requirements.”

According to a report from L’Equipe, Lyon owners and shareholders have pledged €124m to save the club from what would have been a devastating Ligue 2 demotion. The sum includes a direct €87m cash injection and a further €37m worth of guarantees. The outlet adds that Kang and Gerlinger have proved to the DNCG that Lyon’s budget money was “tangible” whereas former Lyon president John Textor used to present letters of intent to the instance.
