After their turnaround in fortunes last season under Marti Cifuentes, Queens Park Rangers have struggled to hit the same heights so far in the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Hoops have just one win to their name so far from their nine league outings, and have failed to pick up three points in front of their own fans since the campaign got underway.

Fingers can be pointed at all areas of the pitch for where the R’s have been underperforming of late, with the summer recruitment not looking to have added to the quality of the side as yet.

With that in mind, we spoke to Football League World’s resident QPR fan Louis Moir about what he would demand from his club’s owners if he was given the chance to do so.

QPR told to issue repeat of Isaac Hayden deal

While there were many things that Cifuentes altered to get the best out of his Rangers side last season, the signing of Isaac Hayden from Newcastle United was one that transformed his side’s fortunes massively in the second-half of the season.

With his dominance in the middle of the park, the loanee gave the West London outfit a firmer grip hold in the games that he played in, with his quality clear for all to see whenever he put on the blue and white hoops.

Without him in the side this season, QPR have been lacking in bite in the centre of the field, and are too easily overrun by their Championship counterparts, with Moir yearning for the board to consider a repeat deal when the calendar year changes.

The R’s fan said: “I think one thing that I would like the owners to do is to try their best to get Isaac Hayden back to the club, whether that is a loan or a permanent in January .

“He made a real difference to us last season and helped massively for us as a club staying clear of relegation.

“He did such a good job in the midfield, and obviously so far this season we have got Jack Colback who is missing a few games due to injury, we signed [Jonathan] Varane who has not quite lived up to the hype yet and has been suspended due to being sent off.

“Nicolas Madsen has looked OK but again not the best, so I think that is where our problems lie.”

Isaac Hayden return to QPR can be great move for all parties

After speaking to The Sun about his time at Rangers last season, there were plenty of rumours abounding over the summer that a repeat deal was on the cards for Hayden to return to the capital.

Nothing came to fruition though, with the midfielder still sitting on the sidelines as a Newcastle player, having not played for the club since December 2021.

With the midfielder surely desperate for game time, and Rangers needing extra solidity in their side, a return to Loftus Road is surely a great fit for all parties in the coming months, as Moir attests to”

“One of our problems at least is in midfield, and think there were rumours that we were wanting to get Hayden back in the summer, but something couldn’t be agreed,” he continued.

“I think we have got to try and get him back, whether it is a loan or permanent, because I think we are missing what he gave us in the midfield.

“I think he would love to come back as well, I think he really enjoyed his time at the club, so hopefully something can still be done. I wouldn’t be surprised if we try and maybe get him back again, because it shows that we are really missing him at the moment.

"I would demand the owners and everyone in charge to try and sort some sort of deal to allow him to return to the club.”
