Leeds United transfer target Jaka Bijol is set to travel to England on Wednesday to finalise his move to Elland Road.
Following their promotion from the Championship, the Whites have been working in the transfer market to improve their existing squad, with the spine of the team targeted for strengthening.
They have already completed the signing of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer from Wolfsburg to add further depth in attack.
A second move is now close to being finalised for Udinese defender Bijol.
The 26-year-old featured in 34 of Udinese’s 38 league games, drawing the attention of English clubs with his performances last season.
Leeds’ fellow Premier League club Newcastle United were linked with a late move for the player.
But the Whites persisted with their efforts and are now close to finalising a move for him.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the player is expected in England on Wednesday to sign on the dotted line.
A medical will be on the cards before the finishing touches are given to the move.
As a part of the agreement, the Whites will pay Udinese a fee in the region of €22m.
Bijol will be a physical presence in the Leeds United defence that was plagued by multiple injuries to key players, such as Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu, last season.
The club’s transfer chiefs have pinpointed physicality as one of the main factors for recruitment this summer.
