Jonathan David scored his first Serie A goal on his debut with Juventus, while Dusan Vlahovic proved he can still be helpful in Turin, although his future remains uncertain.
Juventus started the 2025-26 Serie A campaign with a 2-0 win over Parma at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
Football Italia was among the accredited media in Turin: here’s what we learned from last night’s game.
The Canadian striker had the best possible start in Turin, netting the opener in the second half. The ex-Lille forward struggled to create and finalise goal-scoring opportunities before the break, and even stole a promising ball from Kenan Yildiz at the edge of the box with the Turkish talent on the verge of shooting towards the opponents’ goal. Juventus put many crosses inside the box in the first half, but David is not a specialist in the air, having only netted five headers in the last three seasons at Lille. The connection between the Canadian and Juventus’ attacking midfielders was much better after the break and led to his opening goal in Serie A from a perfect Yildiz assist. This time, the Turkish talent kept the ball on the ground, and David finished the job.

The Serbian forward was introduced as a substitute in the final minutes, but didn’t take long to score his first goal in a competitive game this season. Part of the Allianz Stadium crowd moaned when Vlahovic replaced David, but the mood inside the Stadium was entirely different when the Serbian finalised a perfect counter-attack and another sublime Yildiz assist. Vlahovic opened his arms in front of the Juventus fans, as to say, ‘I’m here,’ but doubts regarding his future remain as the ex-Fiorentina star is unwilling to sign a new deal beyond 2026, especially because it would come with a pay cut. On the one hand, Juventus need him because they don’t have other reliable options in attack aside from him and David, but on the other hand, keeping Vlahovic beyond the summer would mean losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Brazilian centre-back made his first appearance in a competitive match since October 2, 2024, when he was forced out of action during a Champions League game away at RB Leipzig. It is no secret that Juventus dearly missed the ex-Torino star last season, but his performance against Parma still deserves a mention, especially for a game-changing clearance on Mateo Pellegrino early in the second half, when the Ducali striker had a massive chance to put the ball inside an empty net and give the visitors the lead. Bremer was in the right place at the right time, preventing the ball from crossing the goal-line with Michele Di Gregorio unable to intervene. If he remains fit for the whole season, Bremer will be like a new signing for Juventus.
