David Ornstein discusses the latest on Manchester United’s exit market, particularly Jadon Sancho who is being heavily linked with a move to Juventus.

The 25-year-old returned to the club following a loan spell at Chelsea which started on a high note. The winger even earned praise from Ian Wright for his ‘amazing’ displays back in December. However, a less-than-inspiring second half of the season prompted the Blues to relieve themselves of the obligation to buy the player for £25 million by paying £5 million to send him back to Carrington.

However, the Englishman has no place in Ruben Amorim’s plans, as illustrated by his exclusion from the squad that flew to Chicago for the US tour.

This omission was hardly a surprise, as Sancho and four other teammates had asked to leave the club after learning their status as surplus to requirements.

Juventus still a long way off sealing Jadon Sancho deal

The good news for the former Borussia Dortmund is that several clubs had enquired about his services, and chief among them is Juventus who emerged as the frontrunners in the race.

But as explained by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Juve put Sancho’s move on hold after purchasing Francisco Conceicao, as they must now offload a winger before launching an onslaught for the Man Utd outcast.

This has now been confirmed by Ornstein who agrees that the England international isn’t anywhere near sealing a transfer to Turin at this stage.

“Jadon Sancho has been heavily rumoured to be closing in on a move to Juventus,” said the reputable journalist during his appearances on The Athletic’s podcast.

“That is not accurate as I understand it at all and I’m not quite sure where that’s emanating from.”

Napoli to enter the race for Sancho?

The Bianconeri would have to sell one between Nicolas Gonzalez and Timothy to make room for Sancho, so it remains to be seen if they can pull it off in time.

Nevertheless, Ornstein left the door open for a potential transfer to Napoli who have already contacted the player earlier in the summer.

Hence, this could set the stage for a direct Italian tug-of-war for the player’s services, perhaps at a later stage in the summer.
