Manchester United will be restricted in the January transfer window.

Leading football journalist David Ornstein has previewed the January transfer window for Manchester United and he is not expecting many arrivals.

United don’t usually do much business when the midseason transfer window opens, however, many fans would argue that Ruben Amorim needs a new left-back at the very least.

Only time will tell if Amorim looks to the academy for solutions.

At left-back, for example, he could call upon Harry Amass, who is attracting interest from Aston Villa despite not yet making his first-team debut.

United were busy in the summer and made five signings, including three defensive reinforcements.

The problems are glaringly obvious after a poor start to the season led to Erik ten Hag being sacked. He left the club positioned in the bottom half of the Premier League.

A report on Monday suggested Amorim would have to work with a smaller budget than Ten Hag at United.

That headline made its way into the Daily Mail under the title: ‘No warchest for Amorim’.

It’s worth noting that Amorim will have more money to spend at United than he had at Sporting.

However, Ornstein appeared on Sky Sports News to discuss the back pages when he gave us an idea of what the January transfer window could look like for United.

The Athletic reporter explained that United are rarely active in the January transfer window.

Moreover, Ornstein claims the “money isn’t there” due to Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules, with the club “cutting it fine”.

Amorim will be tasked to showcase his quality coaching with the current bunch as United prepare for a “lowkey” midseason transfer window.

The new head coach has already made a promise to Sporting CP that he won’t target any of their star players in January. He might change his mind next summer if United can afford it.
