Matheus Cunha starred in Wolves’ victory over Leicester City as the in-form hosts matched a club milestone that had stood for 55 years.
The Brazilian forward scored once and provided assists for Jorgen Strand Larsen and Rodrigo Gomes, helping Wolves notch their sixth consecutive top-flight win — a feat last achieved in 1970.
Jamie Vardy’s miserable afternoon was compounded when Wolves keeper Jose Sa denied him from the penalty spot in the second half, continuing the Foxes’ struggles in front of goal.
The miss means Vardy remains on 198 goals for Leicester, with just four matches left in what could be the final stretch of his time at the club.
Cunha, who has a £62.5 million release clause and is widely expected to move on this summer — with Manchester United reportedly circling — notched his 15th Premier League goal of the campaign.
Having already secured their Premier League status earlier this month, Wolves’ biggest concern now may be how to replace the influential striker who has played a central role in their survival.
For the moment, though, they were able to enjoy a comfortable win over a Leicester side whose season has continued to unravel, following confirmation of their relegation last weekend.
Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy looked a lonely figure on the sideline, in stark contrast to Wolves boss Vitor Pereira, who was celebrated by supporters at Molineux after guiding the club to 13th place.
Back in December, Pereira’s first game in charge ended in a 3-0 victory over Leicester — who were then still outside the bottom three and two points ahead of Wolves. They now trail them by a staggering 23 points.
With both teams’ futures already sealed, the atmosphere remained subdued until Cunha slotted home Rayan Ait-Nouri’s low cross midway through the opening half.
Ait-Nouri had earlier come close, while Leicester offered little going forward. Vardy’s spot-kick, awarded after he went down under Sa’s challenge, was one of few highlights — though even that ended in disappointment.
Strand Larsen doubled Wolves' lead 10 minutes into the second half, making up for an earlier miss from close range, before Rodrigo Gomes finished off a late move from another Cunha assist to seal the three points.
