Hernán Crespo's early impact at São Paulo has become a point of discussion following the club’s 2-0 derby victory over Corinthians, as reported by Arquibancada Tricolor. With just three matches under his belt, Crespo has stirred both optimism and cautious hope among pundits and supporters eager for change.
During a recent “Debate em 3 Cores” broadcast, several journalists examined the rapid shifts witnessed in São Paulo’s approach since the Argentine took over. Giovanni Chacon noted that the team looked assertive from the opening whistle in the Majestoso, something “we’d been missing.” He highlighted the context—a side mired in a five-match winless run and flirting with the relegation zone—saying, “They needed a response.”
Much of the focus has been on Crespo’s tactical adjustments. Chacon pointed out that the new system defined clearer responsibilities for each player and credited the coach for these “instructions.” He said, “That’s down to Crespo.” The visible improvement in “attitude and posture on the pitch” left Chacon encouraged, hoping that the positive trend will continue.
Ilsinho, another participant in the debate, struck a more measured tone despite acknowledging the “euphoria” among fans. “We haven’t seen things this good in a long time,” he admitted, but warned that as rivals analyze São Paulo’s refreshed game model, finding solutions against them will become more challenging. He stressed, “Sometimes, the system won’t work, and we’ll need alternatives.”
Even so, the consensus was that signs of evolution are unmistakable, notably dating back to the match against RB Bragantino and consolidating with the derby win. Ilsinho concluded, “Crespo managed, in less than a month, to do something we’d been debating for a year.”
The sense is that Crespo has reignited belief by restoring organization and clarity to the squad in record time. His influence on São Paulo’s game structure and the visible morale boost within the group have set an immediate positive tone, albeit with the recognition that tougher tests lie ahead as opponents adapt.
