That is according to journalist Alan Nixon, via Patreon, who states that the Sky Blues are keen to sign the central defender on loan this summer, but that type of deal may not be likely at this stage.

Mark Robins will be keen to strengthen his side once again this summer, as Coventry finished in ninth place in the 2023/24 season, five points adrift of the top six.

The Sky Blues have come ever so close to promotion in the last few seasons, so Robins will be keen to strengthen his side as much as he can over the coming months to ensure they can take that step and reach the Premier League.

It appears that Robins is looking to continue their recruitment drive by adding a centre-back to his squad, with Worrall being the one the club is looking to sign.

Joe Worrall has been with Nottingham Forest since an early age, as the defender came through the club’s academy, representing the team in their under-18s, under-21s, and now the first team.

The 27-year-old first broke into the first team in the 2016/17 season, and after a loan spell at Rangers, he has since been a mainstay in the team.

That was until the 2023/24 season, as Worrall lost his place in the Forest team and was shipped out on loan to Besiktas.

He has since returned to the Premier League club, but it appears as though his future may lie elsewhere after that loan spell.

The defender’s contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2026, but he may be a player that the top-flight side look to sell this summer as they try to balance their books.

According to Alan Nixon, Coventry City have joined the race to sign Worrall, as they are keen on a move for the central defender.

The Sky Blues are keen on signing Worrall on a loan deal this summer instead of a permanent switch, but according to Nixon, that type of deal looks unlikely at this stage of the transfer window.

Sheffield United are also interested in Joe Worrall

Coventry have joined the race to sign Joe Worrall this summer, but it may not be a straightforward race for the Sky Blues.

They also face competition from fellow Championship side Sheffield United, who have been interested in signing the defender for a while now.

It was reported by Football Insider at the beginning of this month that Nottingham Forest were willing to accept £4 million for Worrall amid interest from Sheffield United.

It was then later reported that the Blades had registered their interest in the defender and were getting ready to make a move.

Then, according to TEAMtalk, Sheffield United had opened talks with the Premier League side over a move for Worrall.

The report stated that the player himself is said to be keen on the move, but things could change given that Coventry have now joined the race.

Joe Worrall would be an excellent signing for Coventry

This would be a very exciting and impressive addition for Coventry if they managed to get a deal for Joe Worrall over the line.

Worrall looks set to leave Nottingham Forest in some capacity this summer, and it appears as though a move to the Championship looks likely.

At this stage, it would have to be said that Sheffield United still look more likely to secure a deal, but with their ongoing takeover issues, the Sky Blues could potentially swoop in and hijack their deal.

However, Coventry are looking into a loan deal, and that may scupper their chances of signing the player, as it seems that Forest are looking to move him on permanently.
