Aside from an early difficult phase in which he had to compete with Keylor Navas for a guaranteed starting position and in the 2023-24 season when he had to spend almost the entire campaign on the sidelines, Thibaut Courtois has been one of the most important players for Real Madrid since his arrival in 2018.
The Belgian shot-stopper has been integral to his side’s recent successes in La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Copa del Rey, and remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world today.
Recently, he has been a source of information for Real Madrid fans on how things are in the Merengues dressing room as he appeared in a podcast with the famous streamer, Ibai Llanos. In this interaction, there were some questions and answers that would generate a significant amount of interest in Merengue fans.
For instance, as MARCA has reported, one of the questions that Llanos asked Courtois was about who was the grumpiest player in the squad and who took mistakes and defeats in the worst manner.
Courtois did not hold back, and provided a clear name that best matches such characteristics:
“It depends. I think especially when we play small-sided games, Carva is someone who likes to tease. When he wins, he teases even more, and when he loses, you can’t talk to him. I think it’s part of the winning mentality. When you miss a pass or two, they don’t say anything, but when it’s two or three, they tell you to switch bibs.”
The Real Madrid goalkeeper shared this in a humorous way, and there was no hint of any disagreement with Carvajal. But this answer still provides an interesting insight on how things are inside the Los Blancos’ dressing room.
This answer was also not too surprising, as Carvajal also sometimes loses his temper on the pitch. But this aspect of his personality could also be a factor that has made him such a great footballer, who has already accumulated several titles during his time as a professional player.
