MIAMI — The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continues with Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic facing off in Group A on Wednesday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The two nations are meeting for the first time at the Gold Cup. Los Ticos will seek their second victory of the campaign while the Dominican Republic is in search of its first ever set of three points in the tournament.

Costa Rica out to build on dramatic win

Costa Rica won its opening match 4-3 against Suriname on Sunday. The victory came in dramatic fashion as Los Ticos took the victory via a penalty conversion in stoppage time.

Alonso Martínez and Manfred Ugalde placed Costa Rica in the lead before Suriname rallied with three unanswered goals. Josimar Alcócer scored in the second half to level the match, while Keylor Navas had multiple saves to deny Suriname the victory. Ugalde converted from the spot near the end of the encounter to secure the full three points.

The Central Americans will seek to inch closer to the Knockout Stage with a victory.

Dominican Republic seeks first ever win

The Dominican Republic will seek to rebound from a 3-2 defeat against Mexico on Saturday.

Peter González and Edison Azcona struck to propel a comeback effort that fell short in a thrilling end to the opening match. Goalkeeper Xavier Valdez stood out with five saves against Mexico.

Playing its debut campaign, Los Quisqueyanos will seek their first win in the tournament.

Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic are set to face off for the first time ever in the Concacaf Gold Cup, seven years after their last meeting in an international friendly.

That friendly took place on August 14, 2013, at Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, where Costa Rica secured a dominant 4-0 win with goals from Celso Borges (48', 71'), Pablo Herrera (77'), and Mauricio Castillo (87').

Their first official clash dates back to November 27, 1990, during the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico City. The Group B Triangular opener was held at Estadio Jesús Martínez “Palillo,” where Costa Rica came out on top with a 4-1 victory. Juan Carlos Arguedas opened the scoring in the 15th minute, followed by second-half goals from Eusebio Montero (65'), Alexander Víquez (74'), and Maximilien Peynado (79'). Héctor Mármol pulled one back for the Dominican Republic with a penalty in the 87th minute.
