Corinthians close in on surprise Biel return | OneFootball

Corinthians have made significant progress toward bringing Biel back to Brazil, according to Globo. The 24-year-old attacker, who spent the last five months with Sporting in Portugal, has already agreed personal terms with the São Paulo club. Discussions with Sporting are now focused on reaching an agreement for a permanent transfer.

While several Brazilian teams, including São Paulo, showed interest in Biel, the winger gave his approval for a move to Corinthians. He was swayed by the project presented by the club and indicated his readiness to return to Brazilian football after limited minutes in Europe. Sporting, who signed Biel from Bahia in February, are seeking €7 million—approximately the amount they paid for him earlier this year.

Corinthians initially attempted to secure Biel on loan, but Sporting rejected that approach. Their current strategy involves negotiating a transfer fee and exploring the possibility of acquiring a partial share of Biel’s economic rights as a way to structure the deal within their financial capabilities. Despite ongoing budgetary pressures, Corinthians remain intent on strengthening their attacking options and are prioritizing negotiations with Sporting as the transfer window approaches its July 10 opening.

Biel, originally from Maracanaú and a product of Fluminense's academy, has also played for Grêmio and Bahia prior to moving to Europe. His stint with Sporting proved challenging—he managed only seven appearances and just one start for the Portuguese champions, though he does leave with a league winners’ medal.

Should the move go through, Biel would become Corinthians’ second signing for the 2025 campaign, joining left-back Fabrizio Angileri. Negotiations are expected to intensify in the days ahead, with Sporting showing willingness to negotiate on payment structure but so far standing firm on the overall fee.
