Coppa Italia: Napoli crush Palermo with McTominay on target | OneFootball

Napoli swept Palermo aside 5-0 including a Scott McTominay goal to book a Coppa Italia showdown with Lazio, while Monza made short work of Brescia to face Bologna in the next phase.

Antonio Conte made 10 changes from the side that drew with Juventus at the weekend, giving Billy Gilmour his first start in midfield.

It took seven minutes for Cyril Ngonge to get his first goal in the Napoli jersey, drilling past an uncertain Salvatore Sirigu from the edge of the box on the Giacomo Raspadori assist.

Ngonge got his second soon after, this time running onto the Stanislav Lobotka pass and cutting inside to fire into the far corner.

Sirigu did better on Giovanni Simeone, but Palermo wasted the chance to get back into the game when Matteo Brunori’s effort hit the upright and Jeremy Le Douaron fired the rebound over.

Instead, Napoli went into the break 3-0 up with Juan Jesus nodding in the David Neres corner.

Palermo went down to 10 men just shy of the hour mark for an Aljosa Vasic high boot that struck Gilmour on the head, earning a straight red card for dangerous play, although he seemed unaware of the Scotland international’s presence.

David Neres got his goal too when Simeone intercepted a poor Pietro Ceccaroni pass out from the back, but McTominay scored with practically his first touch off the bench, firing in from a Romelu Lukaku assist for 5-0.

There could’ve been more against 10 men late on, as Gilmour tested Sirigu and McTominay’s right-foot finish clipped the crossbar.

This means Napoli will play against Lazio in the next stage of the tournament in December.

Napoli dominated Palermo, Monza saw off Brescia

Monza made short work of Serie B side Brescia in this local Lombardy derby at the U-Power Stadium.

Luca Caldirola saw his header thump the crossbar just moments before Georgios Kyriakopoulos opened the scoring on the cross from Kevin Martins, the 19-year-old son of former Inter striker Obafemi Martins.

Matteo Pessina got his head to a Kyriakopoulos cross for 2-0, then Maric was brought down for a Gianluca Caprari penalty.

Brescia got a consolation goal in the second half with Patrick Nuamah, but it is Monza who will face Bologna in the Coppa Italia Third Round.
