Contract latest: Manchester City face mass exodus from Etihad Stadium in 2027 with nine players affected | OneFootball

Manchester City currently face the prospect of a mass exodus from their first-team squad in the summer of 2027, alongside a potential exit for manager Pep Guardiola.

The Catalan head coach recently brought an end to growing speculation over his own future at the Etihad Stadium by penning a two-year agreement with the club that extends his stay from the end of the 2024/25 season through to the conclusion of the 2026/27 campaign.

As such, Guardiola is likely to work alongside the incoming new sporting director Hugo Viana in developing the next phase of Manchester City, including the process of rebuilding the all-conquering squad that has brought so much success to the club over the last few years.

But as part of that process, the current Sporting director of football is likely to have to handle a mass of contract situations and renegotiations, with 2027 appearing to be a congested calendar year for expiry dates within the current first-team squad.

In addition to Pep Guardiola’s new contract expiry date of 2027, Manchester City currently face the prospect of nine first-team players entering into the final years of their respective contracts at the same time during the 2026/27 campaign.

Among those that currently have a contract expiry date of 2027 are Erling Haaland and Rodri, however the current understanding from those around the club is that contract negotiations are underway with both players, and the club themselves remain hopeful of an agreement.

Manchester City would also be very likely to open up negotiations and talks with a trio of Phil Foden, Ruben Dias, and Manuel Akanji, given their contributions and long-term importance to the Etihad Stadium project at that stage in their respective careers.

It does however remain to be seen what Manchester City will do when it comes to their £100 million forward Jack Grealish, alongside Nathan Ake – who has faced a number of injury problems, as well as Mateo Kovacic – who will be 33 at that point in his career.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand rounds off the list of names who will be out of contract in the summer of 2027, and there remains a high chance that the defender will find an exit from the club before that point in his career.
