La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week been dealt a fresh, and altogether concerning blow on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that David Alaba has picked up a new fitness problem.
Defender Alaba is for his part of course fresh off his long-awaited return to the pitch.
After over a year on the sidelines recovering from an ACL injury, the Austrian marked his comeback on January 19th, managing 15 minutes in a La Liga meeting with Las Palmas.
This was followed by a further half hour against RB Salzburg, 25 minutes at Real Valladolid, and a brief cameo in the Champions League versus Brest.
Alaba, across these outings, did not miss a step, looking remarkably sharp for a player fresh off such an extended absence.
Safe to say, then, that it will mark a blow for all associated with Real Madrid to learn of the club’s returning stopper being condemned to a new spell out of action.
As confirmed in a statement across the website and social media platforms of the Spanish champions:
‘Following tests carried out on our player David Alaba by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an adductor injury in his left leg. His progress is being monitored.’
Initial reports point towards Alaba being in line for around two to three weeks on the sidelines.
