France national team head coach Didier Deschamps has provided an update on the wellbeing of star man Kylian Mbappé.
As much, of course, comes fresh off another somewhat underwhelming individual display on Mbappé’s part on Friday night.
Afforded a starting berth in his country’s Euro 2024 quarter-final showdown with Portugal, the 25-year-old struggled in his efforts to impact proceedings in a positive manner.
The widespread assumption, in turn, is that Mbappé was again bothered by his newly-fitted facial mask, an issue which the player himself has already admitted to.
Speaking in the aftermath of his side booking their spot in the Euro semi-finals, however, the aforementioned Didier Deschamps pointed to an altogether separate concern as continuing to hamper his captain.
The problem in question? Fitness.
Mbappé, it is claimed, is simply not in peak physical condition at present.
Drawn on the reasoning behind the prolific wide-man’s extra-time withdrawal against Portugal, Deschamps explained:
“He is not in his best physical moment. He is very tired. He has always been very honest with me and with the locker room.”
