According to a fresh update from journalist Alfredo Pedulla, it has come to light that Serie A club Como have now emerged as serious contenders to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena during the current transfer window.

The Italian side are actively looking to bolster their goalkeeping department, and Pena has become a strong option as a summer move edges closer.

The outlet suggests that Como had initially been evaluating other candidates, including Kevin Trapp, but have now turned their focus towards Pena.

Pena most likely to leave

It is to be noted that the 26-year-old shot-stopper, whose contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, is expected to leave the club in the coming weeks.

With Barcelona recently renewing Wojciech Szczesny’s deal and preparing to register Joan Garcia, Pena has requested a transfer in search of more regular playing time.

As a result, the surprise interest from Como could gain momentum quickly, as former Barcelona midfielder and current Como coach Cesc Fabregas is reportedly in full support of signing Pena.

His influence could play a crucial role in convincing the goalkeeper to make the switch to Italy. With Fabregas pushing internally, Como’s pursuit is being taken seriously.

Meanwhile, two other clubs, one from Spain and the other from Turkey, are also keeping tabs on Pena, but Como’s entry into the race could complicate matters for the other suitors.

Barcelona waiting for Joan Garcia’s registration

Despite Pena being the only registered first-team goalkeeper at the moment, Barcelona are not expected to hold up his transfer.

Sporting director Deco has already held discussions with the player’s representatives. The club’s priority is to complete Joan Garcia’s registration, and once that is finalised, which Barça are optimistic will happen soon, they will open the door for Pena’s departure.

All signs now point to an imminent exit for Pena, with the only question remaining being which club will secure his signature. Further developments are expected in the coming days as the summer window progresses.
