Colombia and Panama will lock horns in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday for a place in the Copa America semi-finals.

Nestor Lorenzo’s Colombian outfit are, for many, the form team in men’s international football in recent times and they’ll be heavily favoured to progress.

The Panamanians have already helped oust host nation the United States from the group stages, but they now find themselves as outsiders on a side of the draw that groups them with Los Cafeteros as well as Uruguay and Brazil.

Further progress for Danish-born boss Thomas Christiansen and his side would come as a major shock when they win out at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona, with kick-off at 23:00 UK time on Saturday July 6.

How did Colombia and Panama reach the Copa America quarter-finals?

Colombia are unbeaten since February 2022, a run that extended to 26 games following their 1-1 draw with Brazil in the Group D finale in Santa Clara.

Raphinha put Brazil in front early but Colombia were level on the stroke of half-time via Daniel Munoz’s close-range conversion.

Though Lorenzo’s side were happier with the draw – ensuring top spot – striker Rafael Borre came closest to a winner for Los Cafeteros late on.

It has given the Colombians a favourable draw, facing a Panama outfit ranked 43rd in the Fifa standings and considered rank outsiders of the eight teams contesting the quarter-finals at the Copa America.

Christiansen has been at the helm with Panama for four years and has achieved good progress with his squad in that time.

Their 2026 World Cup qualification bid is in good shape and getting out of a group that included Uruguay, the United States and Bolivia was no mean feat.

They were competitive in the Group C opener with Uruguay and had chances to level before Darwin Nunez put the game beyond them late on.

Against the USMNT, they were handed a major initiative when Timothy Weah got himself sent off after 18 minutes.

Folarin Balogun still put the States ahead, but Cesar Blackman and a late strike from Jose Fajardo gave the Panamanians a deserved win, though they were also reduced to 10 late when Adalberto Carrasquilla lost his cool in Atlanta.

Colombia vs Panama team news

Crystal Palace midfielder Jefferson Lerma serves a one-game suspension for Colombia, though they will believe they can get through this test without him and book a last-four spot.

Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi is considered a doubt for this game. He hasn’t featured since coming off in the opener against Paraguay, with Carlos Cuesta starting the games against Costa Rica and Brazil.

James Rodriguez hasn’t scored in this tournament, but the 32-year-old remains integral and has three assists so far for his side.

For Panama, they remain without Adalberto Carrasquilla after his suspension was increased to two games for the indiscretion against the US.

Jose Rodriguez has missed the last two games with injury, his availability remains in question for this one.

Fajardo has scored in successive wins over the US and Bolivia and the 30-year-old Universidad Catolica forward will spearhead the attack once again in Glendale.
