Cole Palmer “confused” by world’s most famous man crashing trophy celebrations | OneFootball

Donald Trump was at the Club World Cup final, and while that was expected, we didn’t think we’d see him actually on stage for the trophy lift.

Well, he was there, despite some very confused looks from Reece James and Cole Palmer who were next to him asking if he was going to leave. You can see that awkward interaction in the clip here:

Palmer was asked about it in the press conference after the game:

“I knew he was going to be here but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy so I was a bit confused, yeah.”

The attacker is often accused of being confused by much less odd things than that.

Palmer has of course been the main man in Chelsea and FIFA’s PR around this final, doing a photo shoot on a steel girder with Ousmane Dembele to recreate the famous working lunch photo, and being plastered all over the city on posters. It’s another reminder that a player who was forced to leave his club two years ago to get more minutes has instantly become recognised among the world’s best.

“I’ve seen the billboards at Times Square and outside Maddison Square Garden. It’s a nice feeling to be alongside those players [Vini Junior and Kylian Mbappe].”

When he plays like he did last night, you realise it’s well deserved. He’s not just there making up the numbers, he’s a true superstar putting in trophy winning performances.

As Maresca put it after the match: “these are the games where we expect Cole to appear – in big games and big moments. Once again, he showed how good he is.”
