With two days until AC Milan’s second league game of the season against Parma, some news has emerged regarding Paulo Fonseca’s selection choices.

Calciomercato.com write that the draw against Torino in the first game of the season left a ‘bittersweet aftertaste’. On the one hand, there was the fightback to earn a draw thanks to the quality of the bench, but on the other the team showed they have some way to go in assimilating the ideas of the Portuguese coach.

Fonseca is aiming to complete the transition from a the transition-based style that Stefano Pioli preached to a style whereby dominating games with possession of the ball and with the high press is the main mission.

Thus, the new Milan cannot ignore the power of Youssouf Fofana. He is training with great intensity with the rest of the squad and at present he is expected to start in the double pivot alongside Tijjani Reijnders.

He will not be the only new starter, though, because barring any surprises Strahinja Pavlovic will make his debut in Serie A from the first minute against Parma. Fonseca will evaluate things and will also keep an eye on Emerson Royal, who is pushing to take Davide Calabria’s starting spot.
