A West Brom exit could be on the cards this summer from Karlan Grant, and plenty of EFL clubs will be keen over a move.
West Brom will be hopeful of securing a return to the Premier League at the fourth time of asking under Tony Mowbray.
The former Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers boss has already guided the Baggies back into the big time in 2007 but will be aiming to repeat the feat and turn Albion into a top-flight force once again.
Ever since Mowbray entered the hotseat at The Hawthorns for a second time, the form has been quite mixed, with four wins, four draws and three defeats arriving from his opening 11 games in charge.
Despite the inconsistent patches, Albion still find themselves clutching onto sixth place in the table, but will now need to string consecutive victories together in order to fend off the chasing pack.
After Carlos Corberan departed the Baggies for Valencia, there was always going to be change under Mowbray, whether it be training methods, tactical selections or style of play.
One player who has suffered from this is Karlan Grant, who went from a regular starter under Corberan to now having a bit-part role with Mowbray.
This will be so frustrating for Grant, who has shown such a terrific work ethic and improved his fitness to be a valued part of the squad and win back the trust of the Albion faithful.
But now, it appears the situation is sliding back into the one that saw him loaned out to Cardiff last season, and if this continues, Grant may have no choice but to look for a new environment to kickstart his career.
If this does materialise, then a lot of EFL clubs would be keen to take a punt on the 27-year-old, with his past goalscoring exploits in the second tier leading to his £15 million move to the Black Country.
Since Tony Mowbray was re-appointed as Albion boss in January, Karlan Grant’s minutes have significantly reduced, halting the momentum he’d created in the blue and white stripes during the first half of the season.
The former Huddersfield Town attacker started Mowbray’s first game in charge at Middlesbrough but would sit on the bench against Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle, before earning 66 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday.
Grant would miss two of the next three games with illness, before being reintroduced from the sidelines against Leeds United and QPR, although he has earned back-to-back starts against Burnley and last weekend’s game with Hull City.
However, Grant has usually been replaced around the 60-minute mark when starting games, and he is sure to feel that isn’t enough time for him to fully stamp his authority on a match and show what he can do.
In total, under Mowbray, Grant has played nine times, made four starts as well as five substitute appearances, while earning 421 minutes of action.
It’s a difficult situation Karlan Grant finds himself in, with his minutes under Mowbray seemingly dropping due to the vast number of options out wide and the hectic scheduling of the second tier.
At 27, Grant will undoubtedly be in search of more regular gametime and to be one of the main assets to a side, so he may feel his time at West Brom will come to an end in order to achieve that aim, with the winger being utilised as a squad option at the moment.
With instability surrounding his minutes unfolding under Mowbray, many sides in the EFL are sure to be monitoring the situation, with Grant showing he can be one of the first names on the teamsheet for a Championship side from his loan spell at Cardiff last term.
Grant will want to secure minutes at a club that values him significantly in order to keep himself moving in a positive direction, so an exit from West Brom will be needed to keep his career from going stagnant.
