Manchester United are expected to undergo a complete overhaul across the squad this summer.

Ruben Amorim is in desperate need of being granted players that fit his system, with Patrick Dorgu currently the only member of the squad to have signed after Amorim’s arrival – and he’s hugely impressed in the three matches he’s played.

In terms of the outgoings fans are anticipating they’ll see, it’s now common knowledge that the senior quartet Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton will be departing in June when their contracts expire. Harry Maguire had his one-year option activated at the start of the year, and Amad Diallo was awarded a new deal entirely.

Outcast duo Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are spending the rest of their seasons with Chelsea and Aston Villa, respectively. The former’s deal includes an obligation to buy, while the latter’s terms contain an option for Villa to make his move permanent for £40 million.

Rashford, previously hailed as an ‘unstoppable’ talent by Erik ten Hag, has taken to Unai Emery’s system like a duck to water in the four appearances he’s made, with his most recent outing the most noteworthy thus far; he came off the bench for the second half against Chelsea with Villa trailing 1-0 and provided two assists to Marco Asensio to help complete a full turnaround for the Villans.

He’s expected to play a pivotal role for the Midlands outfit in their quest to finish in the European places, as well as in their FA Cup and Champions League campaigns.

Ex-Premier League scout expects Villa to push for permanent Rashford deal

Mick Brown, who worked as a scout and chief scout at both Villa and United, weighed in on Rashford’s resurgence with his new club when speaking to Football Insider.

“Marcus Rashford is a very, very good player,” he began. “What he does, and what he’s going so far for Aston Villa, is he gives them pace in behind.

“When they win the ball back, he’s off running between the full-back and centre-back, looking for the ball to be played over or through them. It’s a great out-ball for Villa’s midfield and defenders because you can give him the ball, and he’ll drag you further up the field.

“At Man United, he would do that, but then they’d expect him to be back covering straight away if they lost possession. At Villa, their team is more organised and set up in a way that he is still expected to get back, but there are players who are prepared to cover for him. That allows him to perform to his best level at what he does without worrying about everything else.”

“It’s the ideal situation for him, really, and they’re getting the benefits of it already,” Brown continued. “He’ll have to keep up the form he has shown so far, but if he can do that, there’s no reason they won’t want to keep him beyond this season.

“He’s doing all the things elite forwards can do – so on that basis, I expect Villa will be putting plans in place to make a move in the summer.

“The only issue then is the money involved because if he’s playing out of his skin, United are going to want a big fee for him.”
