Manchester City are expected to be subject to intensified negotiations from Atletico Madrid in the coming days as the La Liga club eye a deal for Julian Alvarez.

The Argentina international remains on international duty this summer, this time in Paris, in his second successive tournament following on from Copa America success in the last few weeks.

Julian Alvarez, alongside Argentina’s highly-rated under-23 selection, are aiming for Olympic Gold in the French capital, as they take on representatives from the host nation at the quarter-final stage of the competition on Friday night.

But looming in the not too distant future is a necessary decision to be made by Julian Alvarez on his club future, with one eye on more consistent game time in the leading striker role, and a desire to not be left out of important matches moving forward.

Those feelings were confirmed by Alvarez himself in an interview earlier this week, and while he remains content and happy at Manchester City, he would not be opposed to an exit in the coming weeks, should the right proposal be made to his current employers.

Now, according to the information of journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Atlético Madrid have now advanced their negotiations to sign Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez this summer, amid ongoing uncertainty over the player’s future.

It is further reported that there have already been several meetings with the 24-year-old’s entourage, and the La Liga club are now seeking to reach an agreement with the Premier League champions over the player’s signature.

Should that agreement be found between the two clubs, the report reveals that a five-year contract will be placed on the table for Alvarez to sign, in a move specifically requested by Metropolitano head coach Diego Simeone.

Speaking whilst on duty at the ongoing Olympic games in Paris earlier this month, Julian Alvarez confirmed his requirement to make a decision on his Manchester City future, but not until the conclusion of his tournament this summer.

“There is a lot of talk,” said Alvarez prior to Argentina’s final Group B game in the competition. “I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. At Manchester City I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes.”

Alvarez continued, “But we will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide.”

As for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola’s stance on the comments issued by their player, the Catalan coach refused to be drawn into conversation around a possible replacement, instead insisting on waiting for Alvarez to come to his own conclusion in the next few days and weeks.
