A Chelsea Director has spoken out on current head coach Enzo Maresca and the issues that he and the team are facing right now.
Chelsea Directors don’t usually speak much, nor do the owners, but with how things are right now, it’s refreshing to hear from one of them at least.
The club owners are under immense pressure after a terrible January transfer window that only really involved making some loan deals out.
Joao Felix was one of the players who went out on loan to join AC Milan and despite a good start there, he has not had a good review in the last couple of games.
One player who is getting rave reviews though is versatile defender and midfielder Rentao Veiga, who joined Juventus on loan last month so he could play as a centre back. He is having a superb time there right now, and Juventus fans are urging their club to buy him on a permanent deal come the end of this season when his loan is up.
Enzo Maresca looks clueless on the bench at Brighton.
Chelsea director Jonathan Goldstein says Enzo Maresca is ‘100 per cent’ safe as he became the first Blues chief to publicly back the Italian, adding they are ‘optimistic’ they can make it into the Champions League positions this season.
Goldstein appeared on Bloomberg TV speaking about his other business ventures.
At the end of his interview, however, talk turned to Chelsea as Goldstein was asked on the club’s current state under Maresca after a slump in the second half of their season. ‘He’s doing a great job,’ Goldstein said.
Chelsea started the season very well. The last six weeks have been, you know, finding their feet a little bit more.
‘But Enzo has clearly done a great job in bringing the team together, bringing the talent through.’ Reminded that Chelsea are sixth, he continued:
‘And we’re very optimistic for the rest of the season in how that plays out.
’Asked if Maresca will continue in his job for the remainder of the season, Goldstein answered: ‘One hundred per cent.’
