It has been a tough summer for the Spanish side following their Champions League final defeat to Arsenal in May.

Six first-team players have left the club amid the club’s financial issues, leaving just 17 senior players.

One of the most high-profile players to leave was Fridolina Rolfo, who mutually agreed to terminate her contract with Barcelona before signing for Manchester United.

Ellie Roebuck, Jana Fernandez and Martina Fernandez joined Women’s Super League sides Aston Villa, London City Lionesses and Everton respectively.

Ingrid Engen joined Lyon while Bruna Vilamala joined Club America in Mexico.

There have been reports that more Barcelona players could leave the club this summer, as the club looks to balance their accounts.

Claudia Pina and Cata Coll set to sign new Barcelona deals until 2028

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that Claudia Pina and goalkeeper Cata Coll will sign new Barcelona deals which will last until 2028.

The news is a major boost for Barcelona, amid fears that players could yet leave this summer, and with a number of key contracts expiring next summer.

Coll and Pina are two of eight players who see their contracts expire next summer. Other key expiring contracts include Alexia Putellas, Ona Battle, Caroline Graham Hansen and Salma Paralluelo.

Pina and Coll, both aged 24, are seen as big parts of Barcelona’s future.

Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona will turn their attentions to other expiring contracts after sealing the futures of Pina and Coll.

However, it is said that each case will require ‘individual consideration’.

What is going on at Barcelona Women?

Fans of Barcelona are concerned after their summer activity which has seen six senior players leave, with only the addition of Laia Aleixandri from Manchester City on a free transfer.

Spanish media have previously reported that the women’s team was facing a deficit of around one million euros (£864,000).

The issue is complicated by LaLiga’s financial fair play rules, which account for the costs of the men’s, women’s and youth teams together.

Barcelona previously called for a change in rules on this earlier in the summer.

Club director Xavi O’Callaghan defended the recent departures, telling reporters: “The women’s team has raised its wage bill by €1M (£864,000), so the money is there, but the market is inflated.

“To keep the key players, you need to spend more, which means relying on the academy and carefully deciding where to invest.”
