The London outfit survived relegation to League One after another difficult campaign, finishing 18th in the table.

Martí Cifuentes earned a lot of praise for his work in turning things around at Loftus Road, with the Spaniard taking the reins with the club sitting inside the bottom three.

The 41-year-old will now be planning for his first summer transfer window with the Championship side, having become manager last October.

This will also be new QPR CEO Christian Nourry’s first summer window with the club, having been appointed to the executive role in January of this year.

QPR recruitment issues highlighted

Moir believes that the recruitment simply has to be better from QPR if they are to make any progress under Cifuentes.

He is confident that a change in strategy will be seen this summer from the new manager and CEO combination, and is excited by the prospect of an improvement in that area by the club.

“One thing that has to change, and I say has to, has to change, can’t repeat it enough, at QPR this summer is the recruitment,” Moir told Football League World.

“As years have gone by, the recruitment has ended up showing to be pretty useless.

“Obviously we’ve got good players, we picked out good players, but if you look overall.

“The number of players that we’ve signed, and then they end up going for cheap or if not that then getting released, so we end up losing money on them.

“There’s been too many, and I think under the managers we’ve had recently, apart from maybe under [Michael] Beale, the recruitment’s been very same-y and a bit boring.

“I think now it will change with the new CEO and manager.

“We’ve sort of seen it briefly in the January window, and I believe they’re going to get it right.

“It’s not a guarantee but I’ve got full faith, and I think if we do get it right then that could lead to us having a good season.

“I think it’s going to be exciting.

“I think we need to branch out and look abroad as well, and pick up players across Europe, and I get the impression that could happen.

“I think that with the way we’re being run now, even compared to last season, and in recent years, we feel like we’re doing things differently now and it’s going to be a modern way of running things.

“I’m really excited.

“With the new CEO coming in, every decision he’s made so far has been spot on.

“If him and the management staff can all work together moving forward now, I think the recruitment could be class and I’m really, really excited for it.”

QPR survived relegation by six points, with a positive run of form at the end of the campaign ensuring their safety.

Cifuentes’ side earned 56 points to finish six clear of Birmingham City and end the season 18th in the table.

The focus will now turn to the summer transfer window, with the club looking to make improvements to their first team squad.

The Spanish coach will be aiming to build a team capable of fighting in the top half of the Championship next year.

Recruitment will be key to promotion push under Cifuentes

QPR’s form under Cifuentes in the second half of the season was massively encouraging for next year.

However, if the London club is to sustain a push for a top half finish then recruitment will need to improve compared to previous summers.

A new CEO and manager in charge could see a change in transfer strategy, which is an exciting prospect for supporters.

This could be a really interesting next couple of months at Loftus Road, with fans having plenty of reasons to be optimistic for the next campaign.
