Djordje Petrovic (25) has excelled since joining RC Strasbourg Alsace on loan from fellow BlueCo-owned club Chelsea last summer. It had been thought that the Serbian would return to his parent club at the end of the season, however, that may not necessarily happen.
BBC Sport reported earlier this month that Petrovic was set to return to Chelsea this summer. Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, he was expected to compete for the No.1 jersey along with Robert Sanchez and Fili Jorgensen. Despite the goalkeeper area being a problem for Chelsea this season, the Premier League side are not expected to recruit another shot-stopper this summer.
However, Petrovic may not be the solution after all. The Serbain says that he is more than open to staying in Alsace next season. “I am focused on finishing the season in the best way. We’ll see after what could happen this summer. It could be a very good option to stay here if Strasbourg qualify for the UEFA Champions League,” he said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Currently, Les Alsaciens are in seventh but just four points behind AS Monaco and OGC Nice, who both occupy Champions League places in third and fourth. The Serbian goalkeeper also evoked his progression. “I always had confidence in my ability to improve. I have progressed more than I thought (at Strasbourg), but I can still improve more between now and the end of the season,” he said.
