Chelsea won’t go back in for Mike Maignan this summer unless AC Milan drop their price according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Blues made an approach to AC Milan for Maignan last week and hoped to agree a deal in time for the Club World Cup.

Milan valued their number one at around £20-£25m, but Chelsea were only prepared to pay a maximum of £12.6m meaning a deal wasn’t agreed.

Chelsea will only revisit Maignan deal if Milan drop their price

Supporters were left disappointed after the Blues missed out on a top class goalkeeper over a few million pounds, given the amount of money they’ve spent over previous windows.

It’s understood Chelsea could look to sign Maignan on a free transfer in 2026, and the France international was said to be keen on the move.

It’s been reported Chelsea have likely ended their interest in Maignan this summer, but Jacobs has provided an update on the situation.

“Chelsea won’t go back in for Maignan if Milan stick at the same price, it would have to drop,” he said on Playback.

Whether Maignan runs his contract down at Milan or other suitors come to the table remains to be seen, but the feeling amongst Chelsea fans is the club have squandered a big opportunity to upgrade in a vital area of the pitch.

Djordje Petrovic set to be sold

With a deal for Maignan currently off the expectation was Djordje Petrovic would get an opportunity to impress after a great season with Strasbourg.

However, the Serb has been let out of Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad and is now expected to leave the club this summer.

Petrovic is attracting interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray, and the Blues will be in line to make a profit on the £14m they paid MLS New England Revolution in 2023.
