Chelsea will look to extend their five-match winning run when they host Nottingham Forest, who have already caused a big surprise in this season’s Premier League by winning at Liverpool last month.

The game will kick off at 2pm (UK time) on Sunday, 6th October, at Stamford Bridge, but will not be available to watch live on TV in the UK.

It has been another summer of change at Stamford Bridge but it seems as if Chelsea are finally going in the right direction under Enzo Maresca and they will be confident that they can continue their progress against Nottingham Forest.

The Blues have won their last five games, the latest of which was a 4-2 Conference League success over Belgian side Gent, and Maresca has the luxury of utilising his big squad so that his stars can be rested for their Premier League assault.

The decision to omit star midfielder Cole Palmer from their initial, pre-knockout European adventures appears to have been a good one and the former Manchester City man should be as fresh as a daisy for this challenge, which comes eight days since he scored all four goals in their 4-2 win over Brighton in their last league outing.

Starting the weekend two points behind leaders Liverpool after six games is much more like it from a Chelsea fan’s perspective and they will see a home game against Forest as a good opportunity to push on.

They will be warned that the Reds were seen off 1-0 by Forest in a shock Anfield win last month, but that success was just one of two wins Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have mustered in league and cup fixtures this term.

They did earn a 1-0 win on their visit to Chelsea 13 months ago, but they need to pick themselves up from a 1-0 home loss to Fulham last week.

After his outstanding performance against the Seagulls, Palmer will come back into the team and there should be a few changes to the Chelsea line-up following their Thursday exploits.

Reece James is one player who won’t be included in Maresca’s line-up as he is still a couple of weeks away from a return from the thigh injury he picked up in a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid.

The biggest boost for Forest is that Morgan Gibbs-White will be back after he missed the Fulham defeat after his red card in the 2-2 draw at Brighton.

Danilo (ankle) and Ibrahim Sangare (thigh) have been ruled out.
