Chelsea and Los Angeles FC go head-to-head in the FIFA Club World Cup on Monday.
Both sides will be searching for a positive start to the tournament, in an intriguing group that also contains Flamengo and ES Tunis.
Chelsea
Chelsea could hand debuts to several new signings with Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr all included in the squad. The West Londoners beat competition from Premier League rivals to land Delap, who impressed despite Ipswich’s relegation last season.
Andrey Santos has returned to Chelsea after an impressive loan spell at Strasbourg, though Djordje Petrovic, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Axel Disasi are exploring moves away from the club and not involved. Wesley Fofana is out injured, while Mykhailo Mudryk remains provisionally suspended after failing a drug test.
Los Angeles FC
From Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud leads the line for LAFC, alongside the profile Denis Bouanga who has scored 81 goals in 128 games since joining the club from Saint-Etienne.
Ex-Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris will start in goal but on-loan Celtic midfielder Odin Holm is a doubt.
Chelsea: WLWWW
Enzo Maresca’s side ended the Premier League campaign in good form to seal Champions League qualification. The Blues won five of their last six in the league, including crucial victories over champions Liverpool and top-four rivals Nottingham Forest.
Their campaign concluded with a 4-1 win over Real Betis in the Europa Conference League final, as Chelsea became the first club to win all three current UEFA club competitions.
Los Angeles FC: DWDDW
After winning the Western Conference last season, LAFC are fifth after 16 games in 2025. However, Steve Cherundolo’s side have games in hand on the sides above them and are unbeaten in nine. They departed for the Club World Cup on the back of a 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City. After trailing at half-time, goals from Eddie Segura, Bouangara and Giroud turned the game around.
This is the first competitive meeting between the teams. It is also the first time Chelsea have played an American side in a competitive fixture.
